History
Sisters of Faith: Breaking the Silence (SOF) is a breast cancer awareness organization founded by Glenda J. Black to address the crisis of breast cancer among African-American women. Inspired by her own battle with breast cancer, Mrs. Black has worked to develop programs and activities that focus on three key areas: awareness, prevention and support.
Awareness
SOF has instituted an awareness campaign which provides information and resources that increase the awareness of the impact of breast cancer in the African-American community.
Prevention
SOF encourages all women to have yearly cancer screenings. We are also working to provide mammograms to low-income women who do not have health insurance through the SOF Campaign for Early Breast Cancer Detection. The theme of this groundbreaking initiative is "Early Detection is Our Best Protection."
Support
SOF conducts monthly Cancer Support Group meetings in the Atlanta area for men and women and families affected by any type of cancer. These sessions provide emotional and spiritual support as well as up-to-date medical information on the latest treatment options.
